Sausage Sauerkraut Pie Recipe
Hearty but simple casserole similar to Shepherd's Pie

Ingredients
  • 1 lb mild pork sausage
  • 1 16 oz can sauerkraut
  • 3 - 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Directions
  1. Crumble sausage and cook thoroughly in skillet.
  2. Drain fat from sausage and place sausage in the bottom of a 2 quart casserole dish
  3. Drain sauerkraut and place in a layer on top of sausage
  4. Spread mashed potatoes over sauerkraut layer
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheese over potatoes
  6. Bake in 350 degree oven for 20 minutes or until warmed through.

Mmmmmmm, sounds good to me. I would probably add sauted onion, celery and a handful of frozen and thawed green peas. But, I really like your recipe because it's quick and you have omitted extra work. Thank you for sharing ;-)


Been making this for years. Rec. the recipe from a German women in TX in the 70's.
