How to make it

  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • Add orange, lemon, cognac and vanilla.
  • Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture gradually.
  • Shape into ovals with length about the width of your palm 2 inches across.
  • Place on greased cookie sheet and bake for about 20 minutes at 375.
  • Syrup:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1.5 cups water
  • Boil together for 5 minutes.
  • Dip cooled cookies into the syrup for about 1-2 minutes turning over once.
  • Remove with slotted spoon and place cookies on wire racks.
  • Sprinkle immediately with chopped nuts.

    Greekgirrl, are these the traditional Easter cookie? I was given some Greek Almond cookies last Easter, but the person won't share the recipe. Don't you just hate that??

    I guess you can roll the dough (a little more than a large tbs) into a log shape and then flatten slightly. when I make them , they look like an egg that's been cut in half length-wise. I hope this helps. I guess I'm just so used to making them with my mom for the past 30 yrs that I didn't think of that. Sorry!

    Not to sound totally dense or anything, but how exactly do you shape them? Roll into balls and flatten? Sorry I'm being obtuse ... or maybe I'm just tired ... it's just that they sound so good and I'd like to try making them.
