Ingredients
- 2 sticks butter
- 1 cup sugar
- juice of one medium orange
- juice of half a lemon
- shot glass of cognac
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 4 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup finely chopped almonds
Directions
- Cream butter and sugar.
- Add orange, lemon, cognac and vanilla.
- Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture gradually.
- Shape into ovals with length about the width of your palm 2 inches across.
- Place on greased cookie sheet and bake for about 20 minutes at 375.
- Syrup:
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup honey
- 1.5 cups water
- Boil together for 5 minutes.
- Dip cooled cookies into the syrup for about 1-2 minutes turning over once.
- Remove with slotted spoon and place cookies on wire racks.
- Sprinkle immediately with chopped nuts.

Not to sound totally dense or anything, but how exactly do you shape them? Roll into balls and flatten? Sorry I'm being obtuse ... or maybe I'm just tired ... it's just that they sound so good and I'd like to try making them.

I guess you can roll the dough (a little more than a large tbs) into a log shape and then flatten slightly. when I make them , they look like an egg that's been cut in half length-wise. I hope this helps. I guess I'm just so used to making them with my mom for the past 30 yrs that I didn't think of that. Sorry!
