How to make it

  • Brown beef in a large deep skillet over medium high heat. (Do not drain) I recommend using a low fat type of beef like 90/10.
  • Stir in flour, bouillon, slat and pepper. Saute all together for about 5 minutes or until flour is fully absorbed.
  • Gradually stir in milk and Worcestershire sauce, and mushrooms. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly. Cook until thickened, about 5-10 minutes.
  • Serve hot over mashed potatoes or bread.

    ohhyes, you must have been in the army :-) that's were i had it first. no, i wasn't in the us army - my husband was - and a poor first lt. could not afford much more then ground beef in a variety of seasonings. SOS was my favourtie. thanks you for posting and leading me down memory lane.!!
