  • Topping
  • 3 Tbl flour
  • 2 Tbl sugar
  • 2 Tbl finely chopped walnuts, toasted (or your preference)
  • 2 Tbl butter
  • Scones
  • 2 Cups of flour
  • 2 Tbl packed brown sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 Cup firm butter, sliced into pats
  • 1/2 C coarsely chopped walnuts, toasted
  • 1/3 C maple syrup or maple flavored syrup
  • 1 egg
  • about 2 Tbl milk or cream
  • Additional milk or cream

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 400, is using dark pan 375
  2. To toast nuts bake on a cookie sheet, uncovered at 350 for 6 - 10 minutes until golden, stirring occasionally
  3. In a small bowl, mix topping ingredients, cutting in butter with pastry blender until crumbly, set aside
  4. In a large bowl, mix 2 Cups flour, the brown sugar, baking powder and salt
  5. Cut in the butter with pastry blender until finely crumbed
  6. Stir in 1/2 nuts
  7. Stir in syrup, egg and just enough of the 2 Tbl of milk or cream so that dough leaves the side of the bowl and starts to form a ball
  8. Place dough on lightly floured surface; gently roll in the flour to coat the dough.
  9. Knead GENTLY 10 times
  10. Pat or roll into an 8 inch circle on ungreased cookie sheet.
  11. Brush with additional milk
  12. Sprinkle with topping
  13. Cut into 8 wedges, but do not separate
  14. Bake at 350 15-18 minutes for shiny pans and at 375 for 18-21 minutes for dark or coated pans

I saved this one Pat. I love scones and maple ones oh yum! Will have to try this one next! I have to wait awhile though... TOO many valentine cookies for me this week. I SAID I made them for my grandchildren! This is a 5!
