Texas Blackberry Cobbler Recipe

Texas Blackberry Cobbler Recipe
Yummy. Another tried and true delight from my regional collection. This is so good and during the summer blackberries are readily available in Texas so I make this all summer long. Nothing better than a big chunk of this with a big dip of Blue Bel... More

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • Pastry for double-crust pie

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 475.
  2. Lightly butter a square baking dish.
  3. Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg in a large heavy saucepan.

  8. Stir blackberry mixture to evenly distribute the fruit and spoon half the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  9. Cover with the pastry square.
  10. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and spoon remaining blackberry mixture over the baked pastry.

  12. Arrange strips in a loose lattice weave over the blackberry mixture.
  13. Sprinkle lightly with granulated sugar if desired.
  14. Bake an additional 20 minutes or until browned.

The recipe sounds wonderful but I've never put
orange juice in my Blackberry cobbler or pie. What does it do to the taste if you don't mind my asking? I've used apple juice or cider in apple pie if my apples arent too great but this is new to me. Got me curious now so I'll have to try it but think I'll wait till I find out what the OJ does to it since my hubby isn't too open to change of his favorite foods :)

It really doesn't alter the taste much. I'm guessing apple juice would be just as good. I made it exactly by the recipe and it was fantastic. Hope you enjoy it.
