strawberry snowbank pie

- 1 quart strawberries shopping list
- 1 1/4 cups sugar shopping list
- 1/2 cup water shopping list
- 1/2 tsp cream of tartar shopping list
- 2 egg whites shopping list
- pinch salt shopping list
- 1/4 tsp almond extract shopping list
- 1 9" baked pie shell shopping list
How to make it
- wash, hull and drain berries. Fill pie shell with whole, unsweetened berries. Put the prettiest berries in the center.
- Mix sugar, water and cream of tartar in saucepan. Cover and bring to a boil. Uncover, and cook until syrup spins long threads (240 degrees on candy thermometer).
- Stiffly beat egg whites and salt them. Gradually pour sugar mixture into egg whites, beatting constantly. Beat until mixture piles into peaks. Add almond extract.
- Pile egg white mixture onto pie, leaving center uncovered. Cool. do not put into refrigerator
