Not Exactly Swiss Steak

- 1-1/2 lb cubed beef - stewing, round or any beef that can withstand long cook times shopping list
- 2 tbsp oil shopping list
- 1 cup flour shopping list
- 1 tsp salt shopping list
- 1 tsp pepper shopping list
- 2 tsp thyme and/or any other spice you care to throw in, such as oregano, rosemary shopping list
- 1 onion, sliced or chopped (whichever is your preference) shopping list
- 1 clove garlic shopping list
- mushrooms (sliced or canned) shopping list
- 1 can Diced or stewed tomatoes shopping list
- 1/2 can tomato paste shopping list
- 1 can cream soup (celery, mushroom or any other soup of choice) shopping list
- red wine (optional) shopping list
- The beauty of this recipe is that just about all ingredients, and their amounts are optional. It's kind of an 'everything but the kitchen sink' recipe shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 325
- Heat Dutch oven on top of stove, adding oil
- Add onions, garlic, and mushrooms (if not using canned) and cook until onions are translucent
- Meanwhile, mix flour, salt and pepper in large bowl
- Dredge beef in flour mixture until covered in mixture
- Add beef to pot, brown on all sides
- Add all other ingredients and mix together
- Place in oven and bake for 2-1/2 hours
- Serve over rice, mashed potatoes, or even spaghetti squash
