Zesty Baked Ziti

- 1 package ziti pasta shopping list
- 2 cans or jars of your favorite pasta sauce shopping list
- 1 small can mushrooms, drained shopping list
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper shopping list
- salt, to taste (optional) shopping list
- spices: oregano, basil, parsley, italian seasoning, crushed red pepper, garlic powder, onion powder shopping list
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese shopping list
- 2 cups shredded extra sharp cheddar cheese shopping list
How to make it
- Cook ziti according to package directions
- In a large bowl, mix both cans of sauce, mushrooms, black pepper, salt, 1 tsp. to 1 tbsp., to taste, each of oregano, basil, parsley, and crushed red pepper. I like a little more red pepper b/c it gives it that spicy zest. Add only 1 tsp. each of the onion powder and garlic powder.
- Add 1 cup each of mozzarella and the extra sharp cheddar cheeses.
- Add cooked and drained pasta to the bowl and mix thoroughly.
- Add the entire mixture to a greased 9x13in. casserole dish.
- Sprinkle with 1/2 to 1 cup each of the mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, depending on your tastes. Then lightly sprinkle the top with italian seasoning.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes or until cheese on top is completely melted and slightly golden.
- Enjoy! The crushed red pepper and the extra sharp cheddar give it that added zest that everyone loves!
