From mbelisle 16 years agoIngredients
- 1 pkg active dry yeast shopping list
- 1 cup warm water shopping list
- 1/4 cup white sugar shopping list
- 3 tbsp milk shopping list
- 1 egg, beaten shopping list
- 2 tsp salt shopping list
- 4 1/2 cups bread flour shopping list
- minced garlic to taste (I use 2-3 tsp) (optional) shopping list
- 1/4 cup butter, melted shopping list
How to make it
- Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large bowl and let stand 10 min until frothy.
- Add milk, sugar, egg, salt and enough flour to make a soft dough.
- Knead for 6 to 8 minutes on floured surface (until dough is smooth)
- Form dough into a ball and let rise, covered, in a well-oiled bowl for 1 hour. The dough should double in size.
- Punch down dough and knead in garlic if using.
- Form dough into golf-ball sized balls and let rise 30 minutes (until doubled).
- Preheat grill while balls are rising.
- Flatten each ball into circle (I use my hands but you can roll them)
- Brush with butter (or spray with no-stick) and cook on grill 2-3 minutes, until puffy and light brown.
- Brush uncooked side with butter (or spray again) and flip, cooking for another 2-4 minutes until browned.
- Repeat until all naan are cooked.
- Serve hot with curry of your choice.
