Butter Cake

- 13/4c flour shopping list
- 11/2tsp baking powder shopping list
- scant 1/2tsp. salt shopping list
- 1c sugar shopping list
- 1 whole egg plus 1 lg. egg yolk shopping list
- 11/2tsp grated orange zest shopping list
- 11/2tsp vanilla extract shopping list
- 3/4c whole milk shopping list
- 11/2 sticks unsalted butter,softened shopping list
- Garnish: Confectioners' sugar shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 375 with rack in the middle.Butter a 9" round cake pan,then line bottom with a round of parchment paper buttered and dusted with flour.
- Whisk together flour(13/4c),baking powder,and salt. Beat together butter and sugar with electric mixer until pale and fluffy,about 5 mins. Add whole egg,yolk,zest and vanilla and beat 1 min. At low speed.mix in flour mixture and milk alternately in batches. Spread batter in cake pan.
- Bake until golden brown and a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean,35-40 mins. Cool cake in pan 10 mins.then turn onto a rack.
- dust with confectioners sugar.
