How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Grease & flour cake pans or loaf pans. Line with wax paper.
  • Use 2 - 9inch pans for (25 to 30 minutes)
  • 1- 8 1/2 X 12 inch pan (30 minutes)
  • 2 - loaf pans(30 - 45 minutes)
  • Cream Crisco & sugar in mixer until light & fluffy.
  • Add eggs beating well.
  • Place bananas in a bowl with cinnamon and smash up real good.
  • Add bananas, cinnamon & vanilla to mixing bowl ingredients.
  • Sift the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt together.
  • Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk, ending with flour.
  • Fold in the nuts, mixing well
  • Pour into pans and set in preheated oven.
  • Bake loafs for about 30 - 45 minutes.
  • Ovens vary.

    So maybe this is why my banana bread never seems to have much flavor? I use ripe bananas but never let them get that brown. Ah haaaaa! Thank you so much for the tip, Jett! I'm going to make it a point to use really ripe ones from now on!!!

    Buttermilk adds a nice tang and compliments the banana flavor....cream cheese on a slice....heaven. Thank you for a wonderful post

    Everyone seems to have their own favorite banana bread recipe, mine doesn't have buttermilk in it so I am going to have to give this a try.

    Yep, that's the only way to get a good moist banana bread or cake, your bananas have to be very very ripe. I had a cousin that owned a bakery, but actually that was my mom's secret to her cakes and breads.
