Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup tamari
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon grated lemon peel
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 star anise

Directions
  1. Carmelize the sugar in a medium saucepot.
  2. Gradually add the rest of the ingredients, stirring continually.
  3. Bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Cool and strain through a cheesecloth.

LOL I'd never have thought to make this jojo, we get it so easily from the supermarket shelves over here, but this is fantastic for anyone who wants kecap manis but can't get hold of it. Ingenious! *wink wink, nudge nudge* : you can put this to very good use in my balinese grilled calamari recipe LOL Great post. Thanks for sharing :)
