Ingredients

How to make it

  • Slice approximately 1 inch off the top of the French bread. Make a 1-inch slit in the bread lengthwise.
  • Combine cheese soup and milk.
  • Press liquid out of crab meat. Add crab meat and dill to cheese soup.
  • Place bread on a piece of foil. Spoon cheese mixture on top of bread. Place asparagus spears diagonally across cheese mixture. Top with slices of Swiss cheese.
  • Pull foil up on slices of bread, forming a basket. Do not cover top of bread.
  • Bake at 320 degrees F 8-10 minutes or until Swiss cheese melts.
  • Remove from oven. Slice using a serrated knife.

    This sounds so interesting! I love your additions, NYM! Toasting the bread and chopping the asparagus are great ideas! I may try this as an appy for a party!

    The dish was delicious. (I gave up the cell phone to teen...no photo to share) I used fresh asparagus that I steamed in the microwave instead of canned. I added a half of a package of mushrooms *sliced* to the cheese soup. I added a squeeze of lemon juice to brighten the cheddar soup and a bit more dill...no measurement just extra shakes of the jar.
    The amount of crab made it a thick filling for the bread and toasting it made the bread a sturdy base for the topping. Next time instead of leaving the asparagus in spears, I would cut them up and make it easier to eat. Very cheesy creamy, crabby crusty chewy dish.
