How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 400°F, and grease a 9" square pan.
  • whisk together the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  • Combine buttermilk, oil, applesauce, brown sugar and peppers, beat into dry ingredients.
  • Fold in cranberries.
  • Bake 25 minutes.
  • Best served warm, but freezes and reheats well.

    These are to die for! Instead of jalepenos, I added a drained can of green chilies and I used frozen cranberries. We made them into muffins too. I could never eat plain cornbread again!!
