Waldorf Astoria Cake

- 1/2 cup butter or shortening shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups sugar shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- 2 Tbl. cocoa shopping list
- 2 oz. red food coloring shopping list
- 1 cup buttermilk shopping list
- 1 tsp. salt shopping list
- 1 tsp. vanilla shopping list
- 2 1/2 cups cake flour shopping list
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda shopping list
- 1 Tbl. vinegar shopping list
- butter Cream frosting shopping list
- 5 Tbl. flour shopping list
- 1 cup milk shopping list
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 cup butter shopping list
- 1 tsp. vanilla shopping list
How to make it
- Cream butter and sugar, add eggs one at a time beating well after each addition.
- Make a paste of cocoa and coloring and add to creamed mix. Mix well.
- Combine buttermilk, salt and vanilla. Add buttermilk mixture alternately with flour.
- Mix soda and vinegar to foam, fold into the mixture.
- Pour into a 9-inchlayer pan,buttered and floured.
- Bake in a 350 degree preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- Butter cream frosting:
- Cook flour and milk over low heat until thick, stirring constantly. Let cool.
- Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla. Mix butter mixture with cooked mixture, beat until light and fluffy.
