How to make it

  • Stir together first 8 ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  • Put eggs in your mixer bowl and beat with mixer until they are thick and foamy.
  • Keep the mixer running and add the molasses in a stream, then the buttermilk.
  • Add half of the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and blend well with a spoon.
  • Add the rest of the wet mixture in two more parts, beting well by hand after each addition.
  • Gradually add the melted butter and beat with a spoon until your batter is blended and smooth.
  • Pour into 8 inch square baking pan and bake in preheated 350 oven
  • 45 to 50 minutes.
