How to make it

  • Mix cherry pie filling, water and 2 Tbsp butter in a large pan (at least 3 1/2 quart).
  • Boil for 5 minutes.
  • Now make dumplings. Mix together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
  • Cut in 2 Tbsp butter.
  • Add the vanilla to the milk, then mix with the flour mixture until dry ingredients are all moist.
  • Drop by teaspoonfuls onto hot cherry sauce in saucepan.
  • Boil uncovered for 5 minutes, then cover, reduce heat and steam gently for 30 to 35 minutes.
  • Serve warm, spooning the sauce over the dumplings.
