Ingredients

Bars:

2 c flour

1/2 t baking soda

1/2 c brown sugar, packed

1/2 c butter, softened

1 c pure maple syrup

1 egg

2 t vanilla

1 cup walnuts,chopped

Frosting:

1/2 c buttered, softened

2 oz cream cheese, softened

1 T brown sugar, packed

3 T maple syrup

1/4 c plus 2 T powdered sugar

chopped walnuts for decorations

Directions

Oven 325 degrees. Grease 8x8" pan. Combine flour and soda.

In bowl blend sugar and butter then add syrup, egg and vanilla. Beat at med speed until smooth Add flour mixture and walnuts, blend till combined, don't overmix. Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth top. Bake 40 - 45 minutes or till tests done. Cool completely before frosting.

Frosting: In bowl cream butter and cream cheese. Add brown sugar and maple syrup, beat till smooth. Beat in powdered sugar until smooth. Frost; sprinkle chopped walnuts over top.
