This came from one of my favorite sites on the internet. I have made trifle desserts and they are very impressive and remarkabily easy to make.

Ingredients
  • 1 pkg. white cake mix, made as directed
  • 2 batches Birds Custard (make one double batch) OR sub. 2 pkg. cooked vanilla pudding
  • 1 1/2 cup whipping cream
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 c. powdered sugar (vanilla if not avail.)
  • 2 pkg. fresh or frozen strawberries or similar
  • 1/2 cup sherry
  • 1/2 c. good raspberry jam
  • 1 tsp. plain gelatin
  • 1 peeled Kiwi, a few strawberries and pomegranate seeds for garnish

Directions
  1. Prepare cake according to directions on package.
  2. Let cool completely.
  3. Prepare custard or pudding mix according to package instructions. Let cool completely.
  4. Mix fruit with sherry.
  5. If you don't want to use alcohol, use a little water or juice instead.
  6. You want the fruit to be sitting, but not swimming, in a bit of sweetened juice.
  7. Dissolve gelatin in a Tbsp. of boiling water and beat into the whipping cream as you whip the cream.
  8. To assemble:
  9. Trifle is very forgiving, it takes no effort to make it looks great!
  10. If you don't have a trifle bowl, like the one in the photo, use any large glass bowl.
  11. It doesn't technically have to be glass, but it looks prettier if it is.
  12. You can also make individual servings by placing the layers into large wine goblets.
  13. Cut the cakes into large chunks and spread with jam.
  14. Cover the bottom of your dish with a layer of cake.
  15. Top with a layer of prepared fruit, then a layer of custard.
  16. Repeat the process until you are out of ingredients or the bowl is full.
  17. Pipe or spoon whipped cream onto the top and garnish with fresh fruit.
  18. Chill until serving time. Simply scoop out servings with a large spoon.
  19. Can be made early in the day or the night before. Serves 15-20.
  20. You may not get this many servings if it is a huge hit...and it usually is. Many asked for seconds.

Sounds great, Dottie! I love making trifles and love your recipe! I'm adding it to my collection so thank you very much for the NEW recipe!

You could use just about any nice juice like cranberry, pomegranate or apple juice in place of sherry. I am sure it wouldn't hurt the flavor of the whole dish if you didn't want to use Sherry.
