A hot, chocolatey sauce to pour over ice cream......my mom used to make it late at night when I was a kid. It came from her well-worn Betty Crocker cookbook (with the red cover) that I still have.

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup butter (don't use margarine)
  • 1 1/2 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup half & half or whole milk
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions
  1. In a small saucepan, melt the butter with the unswetened chocolate, stirring constantly over low heat
  2. Add the sugar and stir until dissolved
  3. Add the half and half or milk and the salt and stir until smooth
  4. Bring slowly JUST TO A BOIL but don't stir
  5. Remove from heat and blend in the vanilla extract
  6. Serve warm over scoops of French Vanilla or Vanilla Bean ice cream
  7. Makes 1 1/2 cups of sauce
