Nectar Syrup For New Orleans Snowballs Recipe
The famous shaved ice snowball is a summertime treat that is hard to beat. This nectar is heaven.

Ingredients
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons almond extract
  • 1/2 tsp red food coloring
  • Ice

Directions
  1. Bring sugar and water to boil over medium heat. Let mixture cook about 10 seconds. Cool. Add extracts and food coloring. Makes about one pint. Refrigerate.
  2. Shave or finely crust ice in blender and pack (draining if necessary) in plastic cup or paper cone. As you are packing add syrup alternating betwen ice and syrup. Top with syrup.
  3. Noe: A variation is to add a can of sweetened condensed milk. add milk with extracts. Recipe can be multiplied. store in refrigerator.
  4. Become a kid again.

I love that sweetened condensed milk on them ! I miss them terribly. Used to get them in my hometown of Monroe,La.


I used to live in Louisiana & get the ice cream flavored snowballs with condensed milk. I really miss those-this sounds terrific. Thanks for sharing it.
