Really wonderful meatballs and a very different type of gravy. Comfort food at its best!

Ingredients
  • ***MEAT BALLS***
  • 2 lbs. ground beef
  • 2 slices fresh bread (crumbed, no crusts)
  • 3 eggs (beaten)
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 medium onion, grated
  • 3 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1`/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • ***GRAVY***
  • Grease from meat balls
  • 1 med onion, diced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • water and flour to thicken
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 bay leaf
  • salt to taste

Directions
  1. For the meatballs, mix all together throughly and drop by teaspoons in hot grease. Brown, turning so all sides are browned.
  2. For the gravy:
  3. saute the onion in the grease until transparent.
  4. Mix flour with water for the thickening agent and pour enough in to thicken the onion mixture. add tomato paste, salt, and chili powder,
  5. Pour gravy over meatballs in sauce pan. Put bay leaf on top, cover and simmer until done. Remove bay leaf before serving.
