Stuffed Italian Sausage Tailgate Loaf
From crabhappychick 16 years agoIngredients
- 1 French bread loaf, hollowed out, cut off both ends before hollowing and stuffing, reserve ends shopping list
- 1/2 pound italian sausage, Hot or sweet (of course I like HOT!) shopping list
- 1/2 pound ground beef, extra lean shopping list
- 1 onion, medium, chopped shopping list
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped shopping list
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon fennel seeds shopping list
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted shopping list
- 1 clove garlic, crushed shopping list
- salt and pepper, to taste shopping list
How to make it
- Leave a 1/2" shell when hollowing out bread. Reserve removed bread & make crumbs.
- Cook meats and onion in a skillet until well-browned; drain well. Add 1 cup reserved bread crumbs, cheese, egg, parsley, mustard, fennel, salt and pepper and mix well. Spoon meat mixture into bread shell. Replace ends and secure with toothpicks.
- Mix together melted butter and garlic & nuke for 1 minute on high. Brush garlic butter over outside of loaf. Wrap securely in foil. Bake at 400 for 20 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Let stand 5 minutes before serving. Remove foil and slice into thick pieces.
- If you're doing this to take to a tailgate or other party (or just want to make these ahead of time) just bake and take in the foil. Can reheat nicely.
