How to make it

  • Bring 1/2 cup of Sourdough Starter to room temperature.
  • In mixer bowl combine the first batch of flour, yeast, wheat germ, b.s.
  • Heat milk to below scald with butter, honey and salt.
  • Add mlk to flour mixture, stir in beaten egg, apple butter and sourdough starter.
  • Mix at low speed for one minute scraping sides.
  • Beat at high speed, add as much of the second batch of flour as you can.
  • Turn dough out on floured surface.
  • Knead in enough flour to make a fairly stiff dough that is smooth and elastic about 10 minutes total time.
  • Shape into a ball.
  • Place into a greased bowl; turn once. Cover and let rest 15 minutes.
  • Shape into 24 two inch balls.
  • Place on greased baking sheets.
  • cover and let rise until double.
  • Brush tops with milk.
  • Bake in 375 degrees for 15 - 18 minutes.
  • makes 24.
  • I quadruple the recipe and bag in 6 qty packs for the bake sale. Remember this is a fundraiser for the church.
