A homemade gingerbread recipe that substitutes applesauce for butter, this drastically decreases the calories without affecting the taste or texture.

Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 C. All Purpose flour (sifted if possible)
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 C. Applesauce
  • 1/2 White Sugar
  • 1 C. Molasses
  • 1 1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tsp. ground clove
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 approximate cap-full of vegetable oil
  • 1 C. Hot water

Directions
  1. Preheat oven 350 degrees.
  2. Mix wet ingredients (except the hot water) together and set aside.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients
  4. Make a well in the bottom of the dry ingredients and pour in the wet ingredients.
  5. Mix well
  6. Add hot water and mix again.
  7. Grease a 9 inch square or circular pan and bake at 350 for 45 minutes. Check the middle of the bread with a toothpick, if it comes out dry- it's done!

I love gingerbread and I have made it with applesauce. It's amazingly moist and it never lasts very long in our home ;) Great 5 fork recipe!

I love my gingerbreaad with apple sauce! But then I put whipped cream on top so it's not really a low-cal thing for me!
