English Lasagna

- 12 no-boil lasagna noodles shopping list
- 1 lb ground beef shopping list
- 2 cups mushrooms, sliced shopping list
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained shopping list
- 1 pint beef broth shopping list
- 1 small onion, chopped shopping list
- 3T margarine shopping list
- 2T flour shopping list
- 1 pint milk shopping list
- 1 cup sharp cheddar, grated shopping list
- 1T (heaping) tomato paste shopping list
- oregano shopping list
- basil shopping list
- 1/2 tsp salt shopping list
- 1/4 tsp pepper shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350.
- In a large skillet, brown onion over high heat until translucent.
- Add beef & cook until browned.
- Add tomatoes (w/juice), tomato paste, salt & pepper, oregano & basil.
- When combined add beef broth.
- Add mushrooms
- Turn down the heat & let simmer while you make the cheese sauce:
- Melt margarine in a large heavy saucepan over high-ish heat.
- Add flour gradually.
- When flour is absorbed, add milk slowly, adding more whenever it is all combined. Whisk constantly.
- When milk is all in the pan, add cheese & stir until melted.
- Remove from the heat & set aside.
- Put some pan liquid in the bottom of a 13x9 baking dish, then layer:
- noodles, then meat sauce (with plenty of liquid).
- Repeat these layers until the ingredients are gone.
- Pour cheese sauce over the top.
- Bake for 45 minutes.
