How to make it

  • Slice tomatoes to desired thickness(I usually slice them about 1/4").
  • In a medium bowl combine cormeal,flour,salt,black pepper,cayenne peppper,and garlic powder.
  • Pour buttermilk into another bowl.
  • Dip tomato slices into buttermilk the dredge in cornmeal mixture.
  • Repeat unto all slices are coated.
  • Pour 1/4" to 1/2" of oil into a cast iron skillet. Heat over medium high heat to 350 degrees.
  • Fry tomato slices for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown.
  • Drain on paper towels.
  • Serve hot.
