Spicy Fried Green Tomatoes Recipe

Ingredients

3-4 large green tomatoes

1 cup yellow or white cornmeal

1 cup all purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt-or to taste

1 teaspoon black pepper-or to taste

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper-or to taste

1 1/2 cup buttermilk

vegetable oil

Directions

Slice tomatoes to desired thickness(I usually slice them about 1/4").

In a medium bowl combine cormeal,flour,salt,black pepper,cayenne peppper,and garlic powder.

Pour buttermilk into another bowl.

Dip tomato slices into buttermilk the dredge in cornmeal mixture.

Repeat unto all slices are coated.

Pour 1/4" to 1/2" of oil into a cast iron skillet. Heat over medium high heat to 350 degrees.

Fry tomato slices for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown.

Drain on paper towels.

Serve hot.
