Ice Cream Great Grandma Kehlers Way Recipe

Ingredients

Cantaloupe

Ice cream, your favorite flavor

Toppings, again your favs

Directions

I remember that the cantaloupe was always warm, so we must have just picked it out of our garden.

Wash the cataloupe very well as it's shell will be your bowl.

DO NOT PEEL!!!

Cut the cantaloupe in half, clean out hte seeds and membranes.

Place each half in its own bowl if you like. We just held them as they were all natural.

Using an ice cream scoop so it will be pretty, scoop out a big scoop of ice cream and place it in the "bowl" of the cantaloupe .

Top with toppings of choice.

Enjoy!

This was great on a hot summer day after a lot of Farm-girl type work in the garden and such.

Great memory, tui - I remember my mother serving ice cream in a scooped out "muskmelon" (as we called them in Minnesota), with the fruit still intact...sooooo good on a hot summer day, and at least we got some fruit in us (though I don't think that was a major concern in the 1950's!!!).
