Ingredients

How to make it

  • I remember that the cantaloupe was always warm, so we must have just picked it out of our garden.
  • Wash the cataloupe very well as it's shell will be your bowl.
  • DO NOT PEEL!!!
  • Cut the cantaloupe in half, clean out hte seeds and membranes.
  • Place each half in its own bowl if you like. We just held them as they were all natural.
  • Using an ice cream scoop so it will be pretty, scoop out a big scoop of ice cream and place it in the "bowl" of the cantaloupe .
  • Top with toppings of choice.
  • Enjoy!
  • This was great on a hot summer day after a lot of Farm-girl type work in the garden and such.

Haven't had this in a long time! We use to eat it like that too. Unfortunately, my family is not a fan of cantaloupe and although I love it,IT doesn't like me. Sometimes we would put in a big scoop of cottage cheese, instead of ice cream. Thanks for the memory.

Great memory, tui - I remember my mother serving ice cream in a scooped out "muskmelon" (as we called them in Minnesota), with the fruit still intact...sooooo good on a hot summer day, and at least we got some fruit in us (though I don't think that was a major concern in the 1950's!!!). Thanks for posting your wonderful memory...Krum
