Basic American Barbecue Dry Rub Recipe
This simple dry rub works well on pork,beef or chicken.. the meat can be cooked immediately,or for a richer flavor refrigerate for 2-4 hours before grilling.

Ingredients
  • 1/4c kosher salt
  • 1/4c packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/4c paprika
  • 3Tbs fresh ground black pepper
  • 1Tbs garlic powder
  • 1Tbs dried onion flakes
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp celery seed

Directions
  1. In a med. bowl,combine all ingredients and whisk well. Transfer to a jar,cover and store away from heat and light. The rub will keep for several months.

Pretty much right on the money. I prefer onion powder over the onion flakes because the rub gets better adhesion to the meat.


Oh yes! We need a good rub recipe.


This would be great on a ribeye. A long time ago Lipton made an onion soup mix that was Fiesta flavored I would mix it with brownsugar and rub on the steak. I think I have FINALLY found the homemade version of this rub and I'm so happy! When they discontinued that flavor I was never able to recreate it. Thanks!!
