From awetumn 15 years agoIngredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour shopping list
- 3/4 cup water shopping list
- 4 eggs shopping list
- 8 oz cooked chicken, beef, bacon or shrimp (your choice of meat) sliced shopping list
- 7-10 large cabbage leaves, chopped shopping list
- 1 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying) shopping list
- To Garish shopping list
- Okonomiyaki sauce (found in most asian stores, it has a sweet and savory flavor almost like a barbeque/sweet and sour sauce. Brand name I use: Otafuku) shopping list
- Japanese mayonnaise (less flavorful than american mayonnaise, which can be found in most asian stores as well. Brand name I use: Kewpie) shopping list
- Bonito Flakes (dried smokey fish flakes to be sprinkled on top) shopping list
- nori (nori comes in all shapes and sizes, pick one that can be used almost like spice- strips, shavings, you name it.) shopping list
How to make it
- Mix flour with water in a medium to large bowl.
- Beat eggs and add to batter along with the cooked meat and raw cabbage. You will be left with a cabbage coated in batter consistency.
- Heat the oil on a large skillet or hot plate.
- Scoop enough batter to make a single serving okonomiyaki (aprox. 6" across and 1/2" thick)
- Cook on both sides until golden brown (about 5 minutes). Partially cover to ensure the cabbage cooks through but leave enough room so steam can escape and the okonomiyaki can't brown.
- Transfer to serving plate and spread okonomiaki sauce and mayo on the top and sprinkle the bonito and nori on top.
