Italian Dream Cake

- 1/2 cup butter shopping list
- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening shopping list
- 2 cups sugar shopping list
- 5 eggs, separated shopping list
- 2 cups flour shopping list
- 1 teaspoon soda shopping list
- 1 cup buttermilk shopping list
- 1 teaspoon vanilla shopping list
- 1 small can or bag of coconut shopping list
- 1 cup chopped pecans shopping list
- Icing: shopping list
- 1 8 oz cream cheese, softened shopping list
- 1/4 cup butter shopping list
- 1 16 oz box of powdered sugar shopping list
- 1 teaspoon vanilla shopping list
- 1 cup chopped pecans shopping list
How to make it
- Cream butter and shortening; add sugar, beating until smooth.
- Add egg yolks, beat well.
- Combine flour and soda; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk.
- Stir in vanilla, coconut and pecans.
- Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
- Pour into 3 greased 9 inch cake pans.
- Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 25 minutes or until done..
- Icing:
- Beat cream cheese and butter until fluffy.
- Blend in sugar gradually; stir in vanilla.
- Spread frosting between layers, over top and around sides of cake.
- Sprinkle pecans on top of cake.
