Green Gumbo Recipe

Green Gumbo Recipe
This dish is a healthier version of the heavier gumbo's the south offers. I am always amazed at the people who say they don't eat greens but end up loving this gumbo. This is my family and friends favorite of all favorites!

  3. In a large skillet, cook onions, celery, sausage, ham, and garlic in butter until onions are transparent and meats are lightly browned(about 4 minutes)

This is one tasty dish although some may argue that a gumbo has to have okra to qualify. I love all the greens.

Michael you are right. I do add okra to this but for some people okra isn't their thing so I decided to leave it out on the recipe! Thanks for commenting.

Love this recipe... we love our greens in my house!!! Thanks, Lara

Hello...
Is this recipe anything like the "7 Green" Gumbo
that is made for the New Year's holiday?
I like your recipe and I am pleased to have it!

Yes, But adding some of the other greens tend to give the gumbo a bitter taste. So, I prefer to have a smooth gumbo. Of course you can add as many of the greens as you like such as kale, beet tops, carrot tops(green part)and cabbage. I keep my gumbo simple and find it works best for me. Thank you.

Hello deb, finally got the recipe and its great. thxs
