Stuffed Cabbage From My Home Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1-1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1-1/2 pounds ground pork
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1-1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1-1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1-2 Tbsp.. chopped fresh parsley
  • 1-1/2 cups cooked rice
  • 1-1/2 tsp. garlic powder or fresh garlic, minced
  • 2 (10.75 oz.) cans condensed tomato soup
  • 27 oz. sauerkraut, drained
  • 1 (29 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 cabbage, medium size
  • 6 bacon slices
  • 2 Tbsp. white sugar
  • 3 cups water or 2 cups of water and 1 cup white wine

Directions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Bring a pot of water to a boil.
  3. Mix beef and pork together in a bowl.
  4. Stir in onion, cooked rice, parsley, pepper, onion powder, garlic salt and 1/2 can of tomato soup.
  5. Mix well.
  6. Take core out of cabbage and place the cabbage in boiling water and boil until partly cooked. Test it with the point of a sharp knife.
  7. Separate the leaves and trim hard stems off.
  8. Keep about 24 to 32 whole leaves.
  9. Cut remaining leaves and line the bottom of a large roasting pan.
  10. Lightly pack a small handful of the meat and rice mixture and place it in the center of a cabbage leaf.
  11. Fold top part of leaf over mixture, then fold in the sides and roll until the mixture is completely covered.
  12. Lay the rolls on top of torn cabbage leaves in pan.
  13. Spread sauerkraut over cabbage rolls.
  14. Sprinkle with 1 to 2 Tbsp. of sugar.
  15. Mix chopped tomatoes and soup with water and pour over rolls.
  16. Add additional water to reach top of cabbage rolls.
  17. Lay bacon on top of tomatoes.
  18. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 1-1/2 hours or until cooked through.
