Ingredients
  • 1 fresh beef brisket (2 1/2 to 3 pounds)
  • 2 tsp. liquid smoke, optional
  • 1 tsp. celery salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 can (12-oz.) beer or nonalcoholic beer
  • 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup cold water

Directions
  1. Cut brisket in half; rub with liquid smoke if desired, celery salt, pepper and salt.
  2. Place in a 3-qt. slow cooker.
  3. Top with onion.
  4. Combine beer and Worcestershire sauce; pour over meat.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 8-9 hours or until tender.
  6. Remove brisket and keep warm.
  7. Strain cooking juices;transfer to a small saucepan.
  8. Combine cornstarch and water until smooth; stir into juices.
  9. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened.
  10. Thinly slice beef across the grain; serve with gravy.
