Senate Bean Soup

- 16 oz dried navy beans shopping list
- 1 honey Baked ham bone shopping list
- 3 - 4 cloves garlic - chopped shopping list
- 1 Bay Leaf shopping list
- 1 cup potatoes - cubed shopping list
- 1 cup celery - cubed shopping list
- 1 cup carrots - cubed shopping list
How to make it
- Rinse Beans.
- Add 2 1/2 quarts of water. Cover and bring to a boil.
- Simmer for 2 minutes.
- Pull off heat and let stand covered for 1 hour.
- Add ham bone, garlic and bay leaf.
- Simmer covered for 2 hours
- Add veggies and simmer for 1 hour.
- Pull out the Ham Bone and cut meat off the bone.
- Remove Bay Leaf
- Mash some of the beans against the side of the pot to thicken the soup a bit.
- Return the meat to the pot and bring to a boil.
- Serve (Great with corn bread).
- Some like to add a bit of Tobasco to their individual bowls.
