How to make it

  • In large bowl, combine potatoes, sugar, vanilla, and half and half
  • Spread the mixture into a buttered 1-1/2 quart casserole
  • Make a WELL in center of the potato mixture
  • Sprinkle with nuts
  • Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes
  • CARAMEL SAUCE
  • In a saucepan or skillet, combine sugar and butter
  • Cook until sugar is golden brown
  • Gradually add the 1/2 cup half and half
  • Cook 2 minutes
  • Stir in salt and 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Remove potatoes from oven
  • Pour sauce over the hot potato casserole just before serving
