Ingredients

How to make it

  • Whisk eggs, sugar, and half and half together in large bowl.
  • Stir in applesauce, pecans, vanilla, and 1/2 cup pecans.
  • Over medium-low heat, heat griddle or skillet coated with a thin layer of butter or margarine.
  • Place the bread slices, one at a time, into the bowl, letting slices soak up egg mixture for a few seconds, then carefully turn to coat the other side.
  • Soak/coat only as many slices as you will be cooking at one time.
  • Transfer bread slices to griddle or skillet, heating slowly until bottom is golden brown.
  • Turn and brown the other side.
  • Place on individual (warmed)plates or on serving platter.
  • Top with syrup, whipped cream and extra pecans.
  • If you want a crunchy topping: Sprinkle top of toast with a little dark brown sugar and place under broiler for a minute or two or until sugar cooks then top with syrup and whipped cream,
  • Syrup:
  • In heavy saucepan, melt butter.
  • Stir in sugars and cook over med. low heat, stirring often.
  • Slowly stir in half and half and continue to cook 2 to 3 minutes.

    I get it, I get it. The applesauce is a healthy substitute for oil. Yeah, I am digging this one. It sounds real simple too.

    Mmm-mm-mmmm! Wow! That does sound awfully tasty! Love, love, love french toast, but you add in the cinnamon, the applesauce and the pralines...girl, its gonna be a party in my mouth! Thanks for sharing! ~Laura ;D
