How to make it

  • Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt and 2 tsp sugar
  • Mix together egg yolk, buttermilk and melted butter
  • Combine both mixtures, adding more buttermilk if mixture is dry.
  • Beat white to soft peaks and blend into mixture.
  • In a dutch over with cover, combine wine, 3/4 cup sugar and spice and bring to a boil
  • Add peaches and berries and simmer only 3 minutes.
  • Do not overcook.
  • Drop on dumpling batter by spoonfuls.
  • Cover and simmer 8 to 10 minutes or until dumplings are firm.
  • Serve with whipped cream.
  • Best served when freshly made or up to one hour
