Ingredients
  • FILLING:
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • Cortland apples
  • 4 cups sliced and peeled
  • TOPPING:
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup shortening

Directions
  1. Put the apples and sugar and cinnamon in the bottom of a greased 10x6x1 1/2"baking pan.
  2. Mix sifted flour and brown sugar , oats, and salt into a bowl. Cut in butter and shortening as for pastry and sprinkle over the apples.
  3. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes or until crisp and brown.

i have two queries..
what is a cortland apple? and what other apple may do the trick, should we not be able to procure said apples?

and by shortening, do you mean crisco?...
