Smoked Mussel and Shrimp Chowder

- 1 pound smoked mussels...not from a can! shopping list
- 1/2 pound medium shrimp, shelled and deveined shopping list
- 6 medium size red potatoes, diced with skin on shopping list
- 1 onion, diced shopping list
- 1/4 pound bacon, diced shopping list
- 1/4 cup butter shopping list
- 3 ribs celery, thinly sliced shopping list
- 1 cup clam broth shopping list
- 2 cups half and half shopping list
- 3/4 teaspoon dried tarragon shopping list
- 2 cloves minced garlic shopping list
- salt and pepper to taste shopping list
- 3 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped shopping list
- 2 tablespoons snipped fresh chives shopping list
How to make it
- Brown bacon in large skillet. Remove bacon and drain fat, reserving 1 tablespoon. Add potatoes, celery, onion and garlic to reserved bacon fat and fry until potatoes are semi-tender.
- Meanwhile, heat clam broth and cream in a large kettle. Add potato mixture to cream. Add butter and bacon and bring to a low simmer. Cook until potatoes are very tender. Add mussels and shrimp and cook for 10 minutes until shrimp are pink. Add salt and pepper to taste, dried tarragon and parsley. Cook for 3 minutes more. Add chives and serve.
