Ingredients
  • Bring To Boil:
  • 2 sticks oleo (butter or margarine)
  • 1 c. water
  • 4 Tbsps. cocoa
  • ADD:
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • Beat well with mixer.
  • ADD:
  • 1/2 c. sour cream or mayonnaise
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 or 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions
  1. Mix well with spoon and pour into greased cookie sheet.
  2. Bake 350 for 25 to 30 minutes.
  3. Cover brownies with icing while the cake is still hot.

  5. ICING:
  6. Bring to boil:
  7. 1 stick oleo (butter or margarine)
  8. 4 Tbsps. cocoa
  9. 6 Tbsps. milk
  10. Remove from heat and add:
  11. 1 lb. powdered sugar
  12. 1 tsp. vanilla
  13. 1 c. chopped nuts

This is indeed a great recipe, I've used it for years.I've seen it called Texas Sheet cake, Sheath Cake, all kinds of names. Some of the ingredients vary slightly, like 1/2 c. buttermilk instead of the sour cream, or mayo. Some have cinnamon added. Although a cookie sheet is recommended, I've always used a 9 x 13 cake pan with wonderful results! The best recipe I've ever used for a chocolate on chocolate cake or bar!
