Jubilee Jumbles Recipe
From my favorite cookbook, the 1969 Betty Crocker cookbook. These soft cookies have a warm flavor from the brown sugar and vanilla and a crunch from walnuts. They are topped with fantastic browned-butter frosting.

Ingredients
  • Cookies:
  • 2 3/4 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. dairy sour cream
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. chopped nuts, if desired (I use walnuts)
  • Browned Butter Glaze:
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 2 c. confectioner's sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 - 4 TBSP. hot water

Directions
  1. Mix thoroughly all ingredients except glaze. If dough is soft, cover and chill.
  2. Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Drop dough by level tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake 10 min. or until almost no imprint remains when touched with finger.
  3. Immediately remove from baking sheet; cool. Spread with Browned Butter Glaze.
  4. Browned Butter Glaze:
  5. Heat butter over low heat until golden brown. Remove from heat; blend in confectioner's sugar and vanilla. Stir in 2 - 4 TBSP hot water until of spreading consistency.

Hahaha!! I have the same cookbook here at home; had it for years!! In the book I have, this is on page 136 ! Do you have the same copy? Just curious!
