- canola oil to fry shopping list
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal shopping list
- 1 cup flour shopping list
- 2 tsp. kosher salt shopping list
- 1 tsp. baking powder shopping list
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. cayenne shopping list
- 1 jalapeno, seeded then finely chopped shopping list
- 1 can cream-style corn, (8.5 oz.) shopping list
- 1/3 cup onion, grated shopping list
- 1 1/2 cup buttermilk shopping list
- 4 tbls. cornstarch shopping list
- 4 tbls. flour shopping list
- 4 hot dogs, skinless shopping list
How to make it
- Heat oil in large pot to 375
- In mixing bowl, add cornmeal, flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cayenne
- In large mixing bowl, add jalapeno, corn, onion, and buttermilk
- Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients all at once
- Stir only enough to bring batter together; there should be lumps
- Rest 10 minutes
- Slice hot dogs lengthwise making long strips, 8 to a hot dog
- Mix cornstarch and flour in mixing bowl
- Coat hot dog in flour mixture and shake well to remove excess
- Put hot dog strips in bowl of batter
- One at a time, using tongs, put strips into oil
- Fry until coating is golden brown, about 4-5 minutes
- Remove to paper towels and drain
