Spicy Applesauce Bread

- 1 cup raisins shopping list
- 1/2 cup water shopping list
- 1 cup applesauce shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups flour shopping list
- 1 tsp. baking soda shopping list
- 1 tsp. cinnamon shopping list
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves shopping list
- 1/2 cup butter, softened shopping list
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract shopping list
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional) shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease a 9" x 5" loaf pan, and line with two strips of waxed paper (one to fit length of pan, one to fit width).
- In a small saucepan, combine raisins and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat; cover and simmer 1 minute then remove from heat. Stir in applesauce and cool to lukewarm.
- Meanwhile, sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon and cloves; set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Beat in egg and vanilla.
- Add dry ingredients alternately with applesauce mixture, stirring each time until just blended.
- Stir in nuts, if desired.
- Pour mixture into greased and waxed paper lined 9" x 5" loaf pan.
- Bake 1 hour or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
- Cool in pan on rack 10 minutes; Remove from pan and peel off waxed paper. Cool completely on rack.
- Note: You can also use smaller loaf pans - just adjust baking time accordingly.
