How to make it

  • Sift togheter flour and baking powder.
  • Beat eggs with rotary beater in top of double boiler just until blended.
  • Stir in the brown sugar and butter.
  • Stir constantly over rapidly boiling water just until hot, about 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Add the sifted flour and baking powder all at once.
  • Mix until well blended.
  • Stir in vanilla and nut meats.
  • Turn into well greased and lightly floured baking pan, 13 x 9, and bake in moderate oven 350 or until cake springs back when touched lightly in center with fingertip, 25-30 minutes.
  • Serve warm for a dessert with ice cream or whipped cream; or cut into small bars and serve when cold.
  • Cut in pan and remove with spatula.

    This is incredibly good. Made half a recipe and am repeating today. This time I toasted slivered almonds and walnuts.
