This is my mother-in-laws recipes for pickles and it is awesome. Enjoy

Ingredients
  • 1/2 gallon water
  • 1 cup coarse salt
  • 1 gallon sliced cucumbers
  • 1/2 gallon water
  • 1 tablespoon powdered alum
  • 1/2 gallon water
  • 1 tablespoon powdered ginger
  • 1 quart vinegar
  • 6 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon celery seed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon powdered cinnamon

Directions
  1. Mix 1/2 gallon water and coarse salt then bring to a boil and pour over sliced cucumbers.
  2. Put plate on top of cucumbers to keep under solution.
  3. Place cloth over container then let stand 4 days.
  4. On fifth day drain cucumbers then rinse well and drain.
  5. Boil 1/2 gallon water with alum added then pour over cucumbers and let stand 1 day.
  6. On sixth day drain well.
  7. Boil 1/2 gallon water with ginger added then pour over cucumbers.
  8. On seventh day drain well.
  9. Boil 1 quart vinegar, sugar, celery seed, cloves and cinnamon.
  10. Add cucumbers and bring to a boil again then place in sterilized jars and seal.
