How to make it

  • Mix 1/2 gallon water and coarse salt then bring to a boil and pour over sliced cucumbers.
  • Put plate on top of cucumbers to keep under solution.
  • Place cloth over container then let stand 4 days.
  • On fifth day drain cucumbers then rinse well and drain.
  • Boil 1/2 gallon water with alum added then pour over cucumbers and let stand 1 day.
  • On sixth day drain well.
  • Boil 1/2 gallon water with ginger added then pour over cucumbers.
  • On seventh day drain well.
  • Boil 1 quart vinegar, sugar, celery seed, cloves and cinnamon.
  • Add cucumbers and bring to a boil again then place in sterilized jars and seal.
