How to make it

  • Peel onions, trimming off both ends sparingly.
  • Place in a 13x9x2 pan. This will be a snug fit.
  • Top each onion with a bit of butter.
  • Mix sugar and salt together.
  • Sprinkle all around the onions.
  • Cover tightly with tin foil.
  • DO NOT ADD WATER
  • Bake in a 200 degree oven for about 2 hours.
  • Onions wil be golden brown and they keep their shape.

    If you spear the onions with a skewer in half a dozen places each and push a clove into each skewer hole before baking these are even better!
