Ingredients

  • 3 lb. beef or pork roast shopping list
  • 1 can Coca cola (classic) or Dr. pepper (for a tangy twist) NOT DIET! shopping list
  • 1 - 16 oz. bottle of your favorite barbeque sauce (I like KC Masterpiece Original, or if we want it sweet, Longhorn Barbeque sauce - I think it's only available here in Washington or on their website, www.longhornbarbeque.com) shopping list
  • Or, if you have time and want to be 'fancy' try my homemade Barbeque Sauce on my page. shopping list
  • Soft split buns or rolls, for serving shopping list
  • Cole slaw, for serving shopping list

How to make it

  • Trim fat off roast and place in appropriate sized slow cooker. Pour cola over the roast. Cover and cook on low 6 - 8 hours or until meat falls apart easily.
  • Remove roast from cooker and shred. In a colander set over a large bowl, drain juices from slow cooker and reserve.
  • Return meat to slow cooker and stir in barbeque sauce. Thin with some of the reserved juices (don't throw them out yet!). Cook for another 1/2 to 1 hour on low or until heated through. Thin with additional juices, if necessary. I like to have the sauce just slightly thin, so some of the sauce soaks into the buns, but not so thin that they get soggy.
  • To serve, place a good amount of the meat mixture onto the bottom half of a bun. Top with a spoonful of coleslaw and top with the other bun half. If you've got picky eaters, just serve the slaw on the side. Serve with your favorite sides, like baked beans, tater salad, french fries, or mac & cheese. Delicious!

@Inspignant: the original beta version of this site did not have a 'like' feature. If you wanted to express that you 'liked' a recipe, the only option you had was to 'rate' the dish. Apparently, those ratings were carried through when they updated the site. I would like to think, though, that the four 5-star ratings my recipe received *after* the update would give you confidence that this is a good recipe. ;) LOL

I don't understand how some of you can rate something without even trying it.

Family loved this! They even ate the leftovers! I used a london broil that I had bought to make shredded beef tacos but it was way to hot to stand and fry tacos Thank You!

@Tallycat - thanks for mentioning the time you cooked it. Apparently, when the site changed from the beta site to the new one, my times in my directions got messed up! It should have read to cook it for 6 - 8 hours and warm with the sauce for 1/2 to 1 hour. I have corrected the recipe. I noticed that the times in my other recipes are all messed up, too! I will have to go through them and change them one of these days, but there's a lot to do! :)

I used beef and only cooked it for 8 hours before I pulled it and put the sauce in. It was very tender and juicy. My whole family loved it!

This was really good! I've made it twice- once with a mix of a pork tenderloin and some other random pork cut that i had in the freezer (forgot what it was) and used Cherry Dr. pepper- I made it again today with a huge 8lb pork loin i got super cheap on sale and used coke. Both times it turned out excellent, though i think i liked the extra kick of the Cherry Dr. Pepper more! Awesome on toasted garlic rolls or atop mashed potatos!
