Buttermilk Fried Chicken With Gravy Recipe
This old fashion buttermilk fried chicken with hot creamy gravy is sure to please even your most finicky eater.

Ingredients
  • 1 broiler-fryer chicken (2 1/2 - 3 pounds) cut up
  • 1 cup buttermik
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 sp. pepper
  • cooking oil to fry
  • GRAVY
  • 3 TBS. all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups water
  • salt & pepper to taste

Directions
  1. Place chicken in a large flat dish. Pour buttermilk over; cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  2. Combine flour, salt and pepper in a large double-strength paper bag.
  3. Drain chicken pieces; toss, one at a time, in flour mixture. Shake off excess; place on wax paper for 15 minutes to dry.
  4. Heat 1/8 to 1/4 inch of oil in a large skillet.
  5. Fry chicken until browned on all sides.
  6. Cover and simmer, turning occasionally, for 40 to 45 minutes, or until juices run clear and chicken is tender.
  7. Uncover and cook chicken 5 minutes longer.
  8. Remove and keep chicken warm.
  9. GRAVY
  10. Drain all but 1/4 cup drippings in skillet.
  11. Stir in flour until bubbly.
  12. Add milk and 1 1/2 cups water; cook 1 minute more.
  13. Add remaining water if needed. Season with salt and pepper, and serve with chicken.
  14. Try it over garlic mashed potatoes for a real treat.
