Ingredients

How to make it

  • Place ingredients into the breadmachine pan in the order listed.
  • Set breadmachine on dough cycle and loaf size for 1 1/2 lb.
  • Start.
  • At the end of the cycle, turn dough out on a floured board and shape into two French loaves. Place in a baking pan, cover with a clean dish towel and allow to rise.
  • Bake at 350 F for 35-40 min.
Bake on a French bread baking screen.   Close

    Ana, I have a Breadmaster breadmachine. Their dough cycle is setting 10. I think it comes up at about 3'45", if I'm not mistaken.

    Lorraine, this recipe will also work with simple hand kneading. I used to make it that way. The breadmachine is just so much easier. If you do knead the dough, make sure you run it through two risings, punching it down each time. I like to let the dough rise on the top of a warm stove, covered with a cotten dish towel. IKEA towels work great.
